Our Services

Adoption Centre

At Market Hill Animal Hospital we strive to give back to our community in as many ways as possible – this way just happens to be the cutest. We are proud to work side by side with the hardworking founders and volunteers from Action for Animals in Distress Society, offering medical care and fostering cats and kittens in need until they are able to be rehomed. If you or anyone you know is looking for a lifelong companion, you’ve come to the right place! Action for Animals in Distress is a registered non-profit, no-kill society dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and caring for abandoned and unwanted cats and small animals. From time to time they provide our clinic with kittens that are in need of new homes.

About the Animals

While there are always exceptions, generally all of the cats and kittens we receive come from small shelters and rescues in Northern B.C. Typically they are stray, abandoned, or surrendered due to overpopulation from very little spay/neutering, high costs of veterinary care in small towns and a general “cats are feral” mentality. AFA volunteers have the kittens and cats flown down and they are transported directly from the airport to our facility for medical attention.

What’s Included in Adoption

We like to make sure that we start all of our adoption kittens and cats off on the right foot and make a stressful event like switching homes as easy as possible for both parties. Each cat’s adoption fee covers their very first vaccination which they will receive in our care at the hospital, as well as their first month’s flea, tick and internal parasite preventative and a mandatory basic spay or neuter surgery, so there’s no need to worry about surgery costs later down the line. We will also provide each adopter with their first bag of cat/kitten food to ensure there is no digestive upset at home and if necessary, you are able to do a slow transition to a new diet. Depending on availability, we can also offer each adopter a new cat/kitten package complete with some toys, a toothbrush, new kitten/cat guides and an informative package on pet insurance so you’ll have all your bases covered!

How the Adoption Process Works

If you’re interested in adopting one of our kittens or cats, we just ask that you fill out an adoption application which you can pick up either in clinic or we can email to you at your request. We require all of our candidates to fill out an application so that we can be sure you’re serious about taking on a lifelong companion and not impulse shopping. After a few days for processing, if your application is accepted we will contact you and set up a meet and greet with our kittens. If everyone is pleased with the meeting, we’ll have you fill out a few forms and you’ll be able to take your new family member home!
